Reproducible research in computational science.

چکیده
Computational science has led to exciting new developments, but the nature of the work has exposed limitations in our ability to evaluate published findings. Reproducibility has the potential to serve as a minimum standard for judging scientific claims when full independent replication of a study is not possible.

Setting the Default to Reproducible Reproducibility in Computational and Experimental Mathematics Developed collaboratively by the ICERM workshop participants1 Compiled and edited by the Organizers
Science is built upon foundations of theory and experiment validated and improved through open, transparent communication. With the increasingly central role of computation in scientific discovery this means communicating all details of the computations needed for others to replicate the experiment, i.e. making available to others the associated data and code. The “reproducible research” moveme...
متن کاملAdvancements in RNASeqGUI towards a Reproducible Analysis of RNA-Seq Experiments
We present the advancements and novelties recently introduced in RNASeqGUI, a graphical user interface that helps biologists to handle and analyse large data collected in RNA-Seq experiments. This work focuses on the concept of reproducible research and shows how it has been incorporated in RNASeqGUI to provide reproducible (computational) results. The novel version of RNASeqGUI combines graphi...
متن کاملCase Studies and Challenges in Reproducibility in the Computational Sciences
This paper investigates the reproducibility of computational science research and identifies key challenges facing the community today. It is the result of the First Summer School on Experimental Methodology in Computational Science Research. First, we consider how to reproduce experiments that involve human subjects, and in particular how to deal with different ethics requirements at different...
متن کاملResults May Vary: Reproducibility, Open Science and All That Jazz
How could we evaluate research and researchers? Reproducibility underpins the scientific method: at least in principle if not practice. The willing exchange of results and the transparent conduct of research can only be expected up to a point in a competitive environment. Contributions to science are acknowledged, but not if the credit is for data curation or software. From a bioinformatics vie...
متن کاملTerminologies for Reproducible Research
Reproducible research—by its many names—has come to be regarded as a key concern across disciplines and stakeholder groups. Funding agencies and journals, professional societies and even mass media are paying attention, often focusing on the so-called “crisis” of reproducibility. One big problem keeps coming up among those seeking to tackle the issue: different groups are using terminologies in...
